Why a WEB SDR can be interesting to listen MW LOW POWER and PIRATE radio on SW in EUROPE

SWL opérators outside europe cant listen to medium waves radios especialy low power radios. They are also pirate radio on MW and shortwave in Europe who dont use a lot of watts.

With a WEB SDR like this one  http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/   who is located in Netherlands you can listen Long wave, Medium wave and Shortwave on your personal computer.

Exemple on longue waves

Click on STATION INFO and on MWLIST.ORG

After click on 198 kHz

You have info about radios who use this frequencie, power of the radio and for some radios you can listen on internet to be sure you Listen to the right radio.

Click on the green buton on right side on BBC4 and listen

This is the same for medium wave including low power radios

The probleme is because the active antenna of this web sdr is a 20 centimeter = 7,87 Inchs only and his antenna dont turn so when they are few stations on the samme frequencie it can be difficult !

The active antenna the Mini-Whip.

The system is currently composed of a "Mini-Whip" antenna, a homebuilt SDR board (as pictured; see here for background) which samples the entire shortwave spectrum and sends all of this via a gigabit ethernet link to a PC, where a special version of the WebSDR server software processes it. The Mini-Whip is based on a design from PA0RDT (google finds it); see some pictures. The active receiving element is about 5 by 10 cm large. Such an antenna only works well with a good grounding; ours is on top of a 20m high building, the upper part of which is all metal.

20 centimeter = 7,87 Inchs

GO NOW LISTENING TO THE SHORTWAVE RADIOS

This is radio Channel 292 from Germany

If you click on the German flag you can see where is located the antenna and transmiter
